Empty hearts & sleepless nights – Book Review – Amber

Hello everyone! Today I’m talking about empty hearts & sleepless nights by Yasmine Berkani, a 17-year old girl. This is her first book but she has been writing from the moment she could hold a pen.

Author: Yasmine Berkani

Average GoodReads Rating: 4,50 stars.

My rating: 4 stars.

Publication date:  September 15, 2017.

This is a poetry book which is why I won’t be going into the details about what the book is about. I’m going to write about what I liked and what I didn’t like and if it touched me the way a poetry book often do.

Pros:

I really liked the writing style, it’s really nice and it’s somewhat short making it easier to read and feel what the author felt. There were some poems that really got me, there is one about school becoming our health and I couldn’t relate more!

It’s also very original because Yasmine is still young we get to read the problems she has faced and faces. When I read poetry from somewhat older people it’s mostly about society and not their own problems, I really liked this factor, it makes the book stand out me.

It really gets you, as it says on the back: empty hearts and sleepless nights is a poetry collection with a manual. It takes you on a journey full of heartache, feeling lonely, being insecure and young love. And it really got me, we read about the author falling in love too fast and not knowing anymore what the love was like.

Cons:

The book is quite short (only 46 pages) and of course I get why but I would have loved to read a bit more.

I really liked this book and recommend it to any poetry lover. Even though it’s quite short it still gets you and makes you think twice about certain things.

Thanks to the author for providing me with a copy in exchange for a review.

That’s it for today!

Bye!
